Kicking off Pace Picante
ProRodeo Classic festivities, Beaver and Myers will participate in
coin flip prior to Dallas Cowboys/Washington Redskins game at
Texas Stadium
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ‹ World champions Joe Beaver (Huntsville,
Texas) and Rope Myers (Van, Texas) will be special guests of the Dallas
Cowboys at Texas Stadium on Nov. 2, when the Cowboys take on the
Washington Redskins. Beaver and Myers, who are in town for the 2003 Pace
Picante ProRodeo Classic, hosted by the Texas Stampede, will be introduced
and take part in the ceremonial coin toss prior to the game. The game kicks
off a week of activities leading up to the Pace Classic, the Professional Rodeo
Cowboys Association's (PRCA) newest championship event, at the American
Airlines Center, Nov. 7-9. Ninety six of the PRCA's top contestants are
competing for a share of $500,000. All proceeds from the event benefit the
Children's Medical Center and the pediatric programs at UT Southwestern
Medical Center. Beaver, who competes in tie-down roping, is an eight-time
world champion and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2002. He
is an 18-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and is
currently ranked ninth in the Jack Daniels World Standings. The top 15 in each
event after the Pace Classic qualify for the Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas, Dec.
5-14, with a record $5 million in prize money. Myers won the steer wrestling
world title in 2001 and has qualified for the Wrangler NFR seven times. His
success at the Texas Stampede in 2001, winning $12,000, propelled him into
the Wrangler NFR where he moved from 14th to first in 10 days. His father,
Butch, was the 1980 steer wrestling world champion, and his brother, Cash,
also competes in steer wrestling. The Dallas Cowboys are one of Rope's
favorite sports teams. On Nov. 5, downtown Dallas will be transformed into an
Old West scene when 100 Longhorn cattle and an authentic chuck wagon
parade through downtown to officially kick off the third annual Texas
Stampede. The cattle drive will begin at the intersection of North Akard and
Elm and continue westbound down Elm to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey
Plaza. Thousands of spectators are expected for this event sponsored by Pace
Foods. The Pace Classic gets under way Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. (CST). Special
guests will include several Dallas Cowboy players on opening night. A total of
19 world champions with 63 world titles total in seven events will compete in
the three-day event. CBS Sports will televise the event on Nov. 22 at 1:30
